Yesterday, I caught myself falling into a trap.

Every day, I spend 30 minutes reaching out to people on LinkedIn to grow my business. Yesterday, I looked at my tracking system. I saw dozens of warm conversations waiting for a follow-up. Real business potential.

Yet every single morning, I postponed those follow-ups. My inner voice kept telling me: "You must put new people into the machine first. Keep hunting or the pipeline will dry up." I believe in bringing "new blood" into a business. It's a vital rule.

Where my ego trapped me was using this good rule as an excuse to ignore the balance. In a period where I had plenty of warm contacts to follow up with, I spent 100% of my morning energy on the new. By the time I finished opening new chats, my mental battery was empty.

Then the truth hit me. Starting a chat with a stranger carries no emotional risk. If they ignore me, my ego does not care. Following up with a warm contact is different. Because now it matters. Now they might say "no".

In leadership and business, we all use busy work to protect our ego.

4 steps to stop hiding behind volume and finish what actually moves the needle:

1/ Why we prefer starting over finishing

The Concept: We confuse activity with progress. Starting new projects gives our brain a quick hit of dopamine without exposing us to judgment or rejection.

The Actionable Tool: The 5-Minute Hiding Audit. Take a sheet of paper and divide it into two columns. In Column A, list the 3 activities that took most of your energy yesterday. In Column B, write down the 1 conversation, decision, or follow-up you postponed because you "ran out of time".

Coaching Question: What "productive" activity are you currently using as a shield to avoid a 5-minute uncomfortable action?

2/ Balance "new blood" with your warm contacts

The Concept: Every business and team needs "new blood" to grow. The trap is not starting new things: it is failing to adjust the balance to your current reality. Difficult follow-ups require our sharpest morning energy, not our leftovers.

The Actionable Tool: Warm First, New Second. Tomorrow morning, invert your first 45-minute block of work. Before opening new things, follow up on your 3 open loops first.

Coaching Question: Do you have the right balance between hunting for "new blood" and closing the opportunities already in front of you?

3/ Say goodbye to tasks that are dead

The Concept: Having hundreds of pending things creates mental fatigue. Looking at an overloaded list drains your willpower before you even start working.

The Actionable Tool: The 10-Minute Clean-Up. Open your project list. Pick 5 stalled items. For each one, make a binary call: either send a simple 1-line check-in today or archive it permanently.

Coaching Question: Which open loop is costing you mental energy every day because you have not officially closed it?

4/ Stop linking a "no" to your personal value

The Concept: In his book Rejection Proof, Jia Jiang forced himself to ask strangers crazy requests for 100 days in a row just to get rejected. He discovered two things: first, people say "yes" much more often than we fear. Second, a "no" is rarely about who you are: it's just an opinion. When you focus on your effort (what you control) and detach from their answer (what you do not control), the fear disappears.

The Actionable Tool: The "Collect the No's" Game. Instead of trying to get a "yes" today, change your scorecard. Challenge yourself to collect "no's" by following up on things you have been postponing. Either they say "yes" and you move forward, or they say "no" and you win your daily point. Either way, you are no longer stuck waiting.

Coaching Question: What would you dare to ask for today if you knew that a "no" was just information, and took nothing away from your worth?

Let’s do it together. Leadership is about spiraling upward, getting a bit better every day. You can create the best version of your career and your life. Let’s have a chat to define your next step.

Thank you.
See you next Wednesday.
