1. Seek First To Understand :
↳ Instead of reacting, ask clarifying questions.
↳ Shift your focus from you to them.
↳ "Tell me more?"

2. The 10-10-10 Rule
↳ Will this matter in 10 minutes?
↳ 10 months? 10 years?
↳ The big picture gives you greater clarity

3. The Email Hack
↳ Write angry and save it in your drafts
↳ Reread it tomorrow and reflect on your options.
↳ Organize a 15-minute exchange with the person to align.

4. The "Pause and Reflect" Journal:
↳ Take brief breaks to write down your feelings.
↳ Builds self-awareness and helps you identify patterns.
↳ "What are the other explanations or perspectives?"

5. Find The Learning
↳ Instead of focusing on the negative emotion,
↳ Look for the opportunity for growth in the situation.
↳ "What can I learn from this situation?"

6. Mental Rehearsal:
↳ Create ideal response scenarios
↳ Visualize yourself responding calmly and effectively.
↳ Intention: "Where can I practice this today?"

If you want to learn more about visualization, I recommend this book that I recently finished. It gives you lots of concrete techniques for using this tool to improve yourself every day.

7. Forgive Yourself:
↳ Everyone slips up sometimes.
↳ If you react emotionally, forgive yourself.
↳ Learn from the experience and move forward.

True power isn't in speaking first.
It's in the pause between stimulus and response.

That's where your growth lives.
